Put AdBlue into your fuel tank instead of the AdBlue tank? It happens often, because the two filler caps sit close together on many diesel vehicles. The most important thing right now: don't start the engine and don't turn the key to "on". RoadHelp comes to you anywhere in Canberra and surrounding areas, 24/7.
What to do right now
- Leave the engine off. Don't turn the ignition on, as that can start the fuel pump and pull AdBlue into the fuel system.
- Don't add more diesel to try to dilute it.
- Call RoadHelp on 0498 338 188. Tell us where you are, the vehicle, roughly how much AdBlue went in, and whether the engine has been started.
Why AdBlue in the fuel tank needs urgent attention
AdBlue is a water-based solution of urea. It doesn't mix with diesel, and it can crystallise and corrode parts of the fuel system, including the pump, filter and injectors. If the engine is started, it can spread through the system and turn a simple job into a costly repair. Acting before the engine runs is the best way to keep the fix simple.
Already started or driven the vehicle?
Stop somewhere safe as soon as you can, switch the engine off and call us. Tell us how long the engine ran. The vehicle needs to be assessed before it is driven again, and the right next step depends on how far the AdBlue has travelled through the fuel system.
How our mobile service works
- We come to you: at the petrol station, the roadside, home or work.
- Assess: we confirm what went in, how much, and whether the engine was run.
- Drain: we remove the contaminated fuel from the tank.
- Flush and refuel: we clean the system where suitable and add fresh diesel.
- Dispose: the contaminated fuel is disposed of responsibly.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on your location, the vehicle, how much AdBlue was added and whether the engine was started. Call us for a quote and our current availability.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know AdBlue went into the fuel tank?
The AdBlue filler usually has a blue cap and sits next to the diesel filler. If you filled from an AdBlue pump nozzle or a blue AdBlue container and it went into the diesel filler, keep the engine off and call us.
Is a small amount of AdBlue still a problem?
Even a small amount can cause damage once the engine runs. Don't risk it. Call before starting the vehicle.
Do you also fix petrol in diesel or diesel in petrol?
Yes. See petrol in a diesel car, diesel in a petrol car or our mobile fuel drain service.
Do I need roadside membership?
No. No membership is needed. Just call.
